Clinical policy patient support information has been produced to provide clarity for patients, the public and staff about why and how a decision has been taken in respect of commissioning a particular treatment and what it will mean for patients. These are available here.

Please note:  Some commissioning policies approved by the previous commissioning organisations are yet to be reviewed and updated. There is an on-going programme of work in place to review and update these policies. They will then be published under the links above. In the meantime policies of the former commissioning organisations are still applicable. Former NHS Devon policies can be accessed here.  

Since April 2013, NHS England has responsibility for directly commissioning all prescribed specialised services. 'Prescribed' specialised services are those 'tested' against the four factors in the Health and Social Care Act 2012 as suitable for commissioning by NHS England. 

This means that some commissioning policies which were agreed by the previous commissioning organisations are no longer valid as the commissioning of these areas is now the responsibility of NHS England. Further details of former policies which this has affected can be found here
