Who we are
The Western Locality spans about 260 square miles and stretches from Lifton to Salcombe and Plymouth to North Bovey.  More than 340,000 people live in the Western Locality and 19 percent (just over 65,000) are aged over 65 years compared with a national average of 16 per cent.

GP practices
There are 47 GP practices in the western locality, all of whom are member practices of NHS Northern, Eastern and Western Devon Clinical Commissioning Group.
 
Community hospitals
There are three community hospitals in the western locality, all run by Livewell South West CIC.
 
Acute hospital
There is one acute hospital in the western locality, Derriford Hospital in Plymouth. It is run by Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust.
The Western Locality has the highest number of births in the NHS NEW Devon CCG area, with around 3,800 live births per year, at the other end of the spectrum, approximately 3,200 people who live in our locality die each year. Our locality has a similar life expectancy to the national average with the Western Locality average being 78.8 years for men and 82.8 years for women.
 
We work closely with our social care partners in Devon County Council and Plymouth City Council and their developing health and wellbeing strategies and boards as well as the two South Hams District Council and West Devon Borough Council.
