Treat Yourself Better With Pharmacist Advice is a campaign aiming to highlight that antibiotics don’t work on viral infections so there is no need to visit a GP or A&E department unless warning signs are present.
The campaign urges people to self-treat winter ailments such as colds and flu, rather than going to their GP and asking for antibiotics.
In most cases antibiotics won’t work because the symptoms of the majority of coughs and colds are caused by viral infections – which antibiotics don’t treat, yet nearly half (48%) of people have visited the doctor with the expectation they would be prescribed antibiotics.
